A model of perseverance, Aaron Long’s path to the U.S. Men’s National Team has been lengthy, but the time it’s taken to arrive has made it all the more rewarding. Having bounced around several MLS sides and their USL reserve teams, Long settled in with the New York Red Bulls organization in 2016 and won MLS Defender of the Year two years later.
On the heels of that fine season, Long earned his U.S. Men’s National Team debut and has entrenched himself in the competition at center back as the team builds towards the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
LONG GOES PRO
While Aaron Long was one of 20 players to earn their USMNT debuts during the transitional 2018 campaign, at 26 years old he skewed that group's average age a bit higher. Drafted by the Portland Timbers out of UC Riverside in 2014, the first two years of Long's professional career were spent on loan to USL clubs before taking a leap and joining the New York Red Bulls organization in 2016.
The move to New Jersey helped Long solidify his place in the club, aiding the reserve team in its USL Cup title that year before going on to sign with the first team in 2017.
QUITE THE RISE
快猫成人app官网下载The towering central defender made his mark with the Red Bulls through two seasons, helping the club to the 2018 MLS Supporters Shield while going on to win the league's Defender of the Year award and earning his first U.S. Men's National Team cap, all within two years of playing in the lower leagues.
"The situation you're in isn't always the right situation for you," Long said in October 2018 of his rise. "So the farther you grind out, going down the line and joining new teams, new coaching staffs and new players, you're going to find your fit. And then you can take it to the top."
